Postoperative Pain ManagementPostoperative Pain Management

Patients in the postoperative period will be observed on a continuous basis and shall be queried about their pain every 15 minutes. Pain will be graded on a visual analog (VAS) scale of 0-10 with 10 representing continuous severe discomfort and 0 representing the absence of pain.

Patients will be medicated by the physician such that the patient when otherwise ready for discharge has a pain scale <4.

For procedures likely to cause postoperative discomfort, patients will be discharged with prescriptions for oral pain medication.
